Privacy Policy — Singapore Business Council (UAE)
Last updated: 23 September 2026
1. Who we are
Singapore Business Council (UAE) (“SBC UAE”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is a non-profit organisation established in 1999 and registered with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, run by an Executive Committee of Singaporean volunteers based in the UAE.
2. What we collect
- Membership application data: name, title, email, phone, nationality, Singapore PR status, country/city of residence, occupation and employment details, and (for Corporate members) company name.
- Event registration data: name, email, phone, nationality, and — where you register without an existing membership — the same application data above.
- Correspondence: messages you send us, including via our contact form.
- Technical data: standard web server logs.
3. Why we collect it
- To process and administer membership applications and renewals.
- To manage event registration, attendance, and waitlists.
- To communicate with you about your membership and events you register for.
- Where you opt in, to send you news, updates, and event invitations.
- To meet reporting requirements connected to our government-linked supporting bodies (see Section 4).
4. Who we share it with
Singapore Global Network (SGN). SBC UAE events are presented in partnership with Singapore Global Network, a division of Singapore’s Economic Development Board. Where you register for an SGN-affiliated event, your registration details are shared with SGN for the purposes of that event and SGN’s networking programmes, as described and consented to at the point of registration. SGN’s own handling of your data is governed by SGN’s Privacy Statement at singaporeglobalnetwork.gov.sg/privacy-statement.
Event Hosts. Where an event has a named host, and where that host has chosen to collect consent at the point of registration for that specific event, your registration details are shared with that Event Host for the purposes of that event and, where you have consented to this at the point of registration, to receive updates and invitations directly from that host. Each Event Host’s own handling of your data is governed by that host’s own privacy statement, where one is provided at the point of registration. We do not share your data with an Event Host outside the context of a specific event you have registered for.
Service providers. We use third-party providers to operate our systems, including database/hosting infrastructure and email delivery. These providers process data on our behalf under contractual terms and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Legal requirements. We may disclose your data where required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of SBC UAE, our members, or others.
We do not sell your personal data.
5. Marketing communications
Where you have opted in, we may send you news, updates, and invitations to SBC UAE events. You can opt out at any time via the link included in any such communication, or via the self-service link provided when you joined or renewed. Opting out of marketing communications does not affect our ability to send you communications necessary to administer your membership or event registrations.
6. Data security
We apply access controls appropriate to the sensitivity of the data we hold, including restricting internal access to personal data on a need-to-know basis, and requiring verification before sensitive contact information is disclosed internally.
7. Data retention
We retain membership and event data for as long as needed to administer your membership, meet our legal and reporting obligations, and for a reasonable period afterward for record-keeping purposes.
8. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting exco@sbcuae.org. Certain membership and event records may need to be retained for legitimate administrative or legal reasons even after a deletion request.
9. Children’s data
Our membership and events are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from individuals under 18.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date above reflects the most recent revision.
